I am looking: To know the community
The Thousand Islands host a mosaic of Francophone communities proud of their language and culture.
In each of these cities, Francophone families in the Thousand Islands region have access to several Catholic or public elementary and secondary schools offering education in French.
Here is an overview of the Francophone population in the region:
- Belleville/Trenton: This area contains approximately 1,300 people whose first official language is French. With two Francophone schools and Francophone daycares, this region is growing rapidly.
- Brockville: Nearly 1,000 Francophones reside here, forming a well-established community in the area.
- Kingston: With nearly 5,000 Francophones, Kingston is a vibrant hub for the region’s Francophone population. As a designated city under Ontario’s French Language Services Act, Kingston ensures access to certain government-funded services in French.
- Merrickville: Small but dynamic, this community features a Francophone elementary school.
- Kemptville: With around 500 Francophones, this town continues to celebrate and preserve the French language.
