BGC South East is currently seeking the following position:

Supply Centre Cook/Cafe Support

Job Posting Details:

Locations include -

  • St. Genevieve Catholic School (386 Holden St.)
  • West End (1300 Bath Road)
  • Hughson Childcare Centre (559 Bagot Street)

The successful candidate will provide support at any of our three centres based on need. Candidates must provide their own transportation to the Centres.

Position Timeline - Monday to Friday (between the hours of 7:30am - 5:30pm)

Start date: April 2025 (contract position)

Rate - $21 - $22 (depending on experience)

Overview:

BGC South East is seeking a dedicated Centre Cook/Cafe Support to join our team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious lunches and snacks according to the Canada Food Guide. The successful candidate will have thorough knowledge of food preparation, meal planning, and food safety practices, will have the ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively. This position will have a passion for working with young children and promoting their well-being through healthy meals and positive meal-time experiences.

Key Responsibilities:

Centre Cook (St. Genevieve and Hughson)

  • Menu development of planning nutritious meals and snacks for full day daycare and before & after school programs, including providing substitute meals for children with special dietary requirements and/or food allergies
  • Delivering snack and meal carts to the program rooms
  • Washing dishes and equipment as required, in accordance with Ministry and Public Health guidelines
  • Responsible for the safety in the kitchen environment/Maintain clean and sanitary kitchen and storage facilities
  • Ensures safe food storage and disposal and complies with all health and hygiene requirements under all food safety legislation
  • Ensure daily, weekly, and monthly inspections, deep cleaning, and maintenance are performed.
  • Communicating with daycare program staff regarding any daily menu changes, or feedback on menu items
  • Assisting with Grocery shopping and preparing shopping list as required
  • Completing weekly and monthly budget tracking/receipt reporting as required

Cafe Support (West End)

  • Daily planning, preparation and delivery of wholesome and nutritious foods prepared according to the Health Regulations, Canada’s Food Guide in consultation with the Supervisor.
  • Practice safe food handling techniques in food preparation and storage.
  • Maintain a safe and sanitary kitchen, pantry and storage areas.
  • Help assist with the sales and revenue generating projects.
  • Work with others as an integral part of a team with a diverse range of abilities.
  • Serve food to customers.
  • Ability to use a Point of Sale (POS) system and handle cash.
  • General cleaning required based on Public Health standards.
  • Act as a positive role model for BGC South East in the community and with partners.
  • Opening or Closing down the kitchen ensuring all equipment is properly turned off and put away in their designated locations.

Job Requirements:

  • Safe Food Handling Certificate
  • Standard CPR/First Aid Level C
  • Criminal Record Check, including Vulnerable Sector Search
  • Immunization Record (Tdap and MMR)
  • Previous experience in childcare or related fields preferred
  • Knowledge of food preparation, meal planning, and food safety practices
  • 1 -3 years experience cooking for groups
  • Thorough understanding of Canadian Food guide and Public Health regulations
  • Passion for working with young children and promoting their well-being through healthy meals and positive meal-time experiences
  • Flexibility to adapt to changing priorities and assist with additional duties as needed.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize responsibilities effectively
  • Strong communication skills and ability to interact positively with educators, children and parents
