Position Summary

The Marketing and Communications Coordinator is instrumental to Tourism Kingston’s brand presence across several key channels, developing and executing content and campaigns in support of destination marketing and communications plans. The Marketing and Communications Coordinator reports to the Chief Marketing Officer while receiving supervision from the Brand Manager.

The ideal candidate has prior experience successfully managing digital platforms and channels including social media, websites, and newsletters.


Contract Term

18 - months

Key Responsibilities

  • Curates and publishes content for social platforms, websites and microsites; develops and maintains quarterly and annual content calendars working with the Brand Manager
  • Writes and edits digital content in coordination with marketing campaigns and tactics to ensure consistency of message
  • Manages social communities, responds to inquiries, interacts with fans and followers, constructs and schedules messages to drive engagement, providing exceptional customer service
  • Implements website maintenance and content development; creates and manages landing pages, blogs, and other web content
  • Uses community outreach to ensure website events, stories, and promotions are current and accurate
  • Manages, implements, and tracks web and social campaigns; analyzes audience growth, engagement, content reach, and anecdotal feedback
  • Coordinates and drafts industry and consumer newsletters, supports Brand Manager in soliciting content and feedback from colleagues and partners
  • Builds relationships and liaises with operators, attractions, accommodation providers, social media influencers, and traditional media to develop cross-promotional social strategies and opportunities
  • Monitors social media activities to identify opportunities to engage on key issues working with the Chief Marketing Officer, Brand Manager, and Destination Development Manager
  • Champions visual identity and brand standards, serving as a resource for staff and partners
  • Supports search engine optimization, implementing SEO tactics under direction of search agency
  • Assists with digital communications including presentations, photo and video assets, and digital graphics
  • Represents Tourism Kingston and the Kingston brand as member of special committees, boards, and working groups
  • Undertakes special projects as assigned

Education

  • A degree or diploma in marketing, communications, or a related field.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Minimum two years of relevant experience in digital marketing and communications
  • A team player with the confidence to take the lead and be self-starting
  • Demonstrated ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with competing demands
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • Understanding of search engine optimization strategies and tactics
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Working knowledge of content management platform, such as WordPress and Craft
  • Working knowledge of CRM (Simpleview)
  • Proficiency with Adobe Creative Cloud applications such as Photoshop and InDesign
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with the ability to refine content to ensure consistency with brand, style, and tone
  • Excellent understanding of analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, MailChimp, and Sprout Social

Assets

  • Knowledge of tourism industry

Working Conditions

This role is based at Tourism Kingston’s office in downtown Kingston. The position requires varied hours of work to carry out the duties assigned. Events are often scheduled outside out Tourism Kingston’s regular business hours. The coordinator is expected to be available to work early mornings, evenings, Saturdays, Sundays and some statutory holidays as required.
