Employer Eligibility

  • Have authorization to operate a business in Ontario.
  • Comply with all relevant laws, including federal and provincial laws and regulations related to human rights, and all other applicable standards, as well as laws concerning workplace health and safety, employment standards, and access to information and privacy protection.
  • Offer jobs through Ontario Employment Services placements.
  • Be registered with the WSIB (Workplace Safety and Insurance Board) or carry private workplace accident insurance, and have adequate general liability insurance, as advised by their insurance broker.
  • NOT hire a participant for a placement if they are an immediate family member, such as a parent, spouse, sibling, or child.
  • NOT receive government funding from another source for the same training placement.
  • NOT use placement services to replace existing or laid-off staff.
  • NOT be an Ontario Employment Services service provider.

Employer Commitments

Employers must commit to:

  • Developing a relevant training and work experience plan that will help participants achieve their goals.
  • Providing feedback and evaluations on participants’ skill levels.
  • Offering opportunities for permanent or long-term contractual employment.
  • Demonstrating the capacity to provide adequate supervision and deliver the required training or work experience.
  • Placing the participant on the company payroll and providing them with the same working conditions and benefits as regular employees.

Apprenticeship Training

Employers can take advantage of a financial incentive for apprenticeship if they hire, register, or train an apprentice as part of their participation in the Job-Matching Program.

Participants can receive information and support regarding the Apprenticeship Scholarship programs.
